Artistic Process

My ‘patchwork pots’ are made using the ‘pot-within-a-pot’ process.  Two pots are made to create each desired ceramic art piece.

I collect natural materials and patterns and impress them in a slab of clay. Within a leather-hard thrown clay form I arrange and unify pieces of the textured clay slabs.  A coil of clay is then attached to the new form and I throw a rim to finish the piece.  The original thrown clay form is removed to reveal the composite pot within.

Additions, such as a handle, spout, or lid, are then added.

Each pot is built within its own clay mold.  Interiors are glazed and each item is functional, food-safe, and truly individual. And yes, the leaves are real!
